On John Cotton Dana and Modern Museum Practice

 

"We want to know why Dana failed to spread his philosophy in his day and the answer lies in his very words...Is this how we want to change the world of museums? By crushing people under our big ideas with sarcastic remarks and witty cynicisms? When will we learn to come alongside one another, knowing we are really all fighting the same battles?"

Collections Advisor: What About Collections Committees? 

 

"The term “collections committee” gets tossed around frequently in the museum world. Everyone’s committee seems just a little different. What are collections committees really about?" Finding a lack of clarity on collections committees in the literature, I looked at the basics and reflected on my own experience on a collections committee. This article was written for Collections Advisor, a monthly collections bulliten sent out by Local History services at the Indiana Historical Society.
